Survey

UX Challenge

SCENARIO:
You're a product designer for a streaming company.
You want to analyse a particular feature of the app that you think users are overlooking. You want to gather some information that will help you set the direction for what to do with more substantial qualitative research like journey maps and usability tests.
TASK:
Choose a streaming company who will be your imaginary employer for this challenge. Examples include Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu and Disney+.
Select a specific feature from your chosen app that you think a customers are overlooking. This could be something like the title search or how the mobile app is designed.
Create a survey that will allow you to analyse this feature of the app and find potential problems. Write the survey questions, perform the survey, and create a report of your findings.
Survey:
For this challenge I choose to analyse a new feature on the Netflix web app, the highly anticipated "Play Something" feature as felt although a well sought after feature that the final result wasn't as expected to users and wanted to understand whether User's found it suited their needs.
Starting by using the feature myself and drafting up a list of survey questions that would help better understand what kind of users use the feature and in what situations do they use the feature. I also included a couple of questions about whether they would recommend the feature and what Netflix could do to improve the feature.
After drafting up my questions I was sure to use a mixture of multiple choice and description questions to ensure I was getting answers in the user's own words. I created the form in Jotform and is currently ongoing.
Results:
This survey is currently ongoing but primarily results have shown that 100% of participants rarely use the "Play Something" feature with most users stating that they use the feature when they are struggling to find something to watch. Out of these responses 67% said that it did not help them solve this problem and on average they were unlikely to recommend it to family and friends.
